The Polish Space Agency (POLSA) has taken its systems offline after detecting a cyberattack, disconnecting from the internet to prevent further damage. Authorities are investigating the breach, while cybersecurity teams work to restore operations.

Cyberattack Forces POLSA to Disconnect

Over the weekend, POLSA identified an unauthorized intrusion into its IT infrastructure. In response, the agency immediately cut off internet access to secure sensitive data.

“There has been a cybersecurity incident at POLSA. The relevant services and institutions have been informed. The situation is being analyzed,” the agency stated on Sunday.

The agency has not disclosed the exact nature of the breach or the perpetrators behind the attack. However, sources suggest POLSA’s internal email systems were compromised, forcing employees to communicate via phone.

Poland’s Cybersecurity Experts Step In

To address the crisis, POLSA is working alongside Poland’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT NASK) and the Polish Military CSIRT (CSIRT MON). Both teams are assisting in securing affected systems and restoring operations.

“In connection with the incident, the systems under attack were secured. CSIRT NASK, together with CSIRT MON, supports POLSA in activities aimed at restoring the operational functioning of the agency,” said Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s Minister of Digital Affairs.

Authorities are actively investigating the attack’s origin, with updates expected as the situation unfolds.

POLSA’s Role in Poland’s Space and Defense Sectors

Founded in September 2014, POLSA is a crucial member of the European Space Agency (ESA). It plays a key role in advancing Poland’s space industry and enhancing national security through satellite technology.

The agency also supports Polish businesses in securing funding from the ESA and collaborates on international space exploration projects. This cyberattack raises concerns about the security of critical infrastructure and the growing threat of cyber warfare.

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Cybersecurity Measures

With cyber threats on the rise, this incident highlights the need for stronger defense mechanisms in space and defense agencies. Experts emphasize the importance of proactive cybersecurity strategies to prevent future attacks.

Further updates from POLSA and the investigating teams are expected as efforts to secure the agency’s systems continue.
