“We believe expanding our portfolio to invest in this field will only accrue value to Meta AI and our mixed and augmented reality programs,” Bosworth stated.

To lead this initiative, Meta has appointed Marc Whitten, former CEO of self-driving car company Cruise, as Vice President of Robotics. Additionally, Meta has hired John Koryl, ex-CEO of The RealReal, as Vice President of Retail. Koryl’s role is to boost direct-to-consumer sales of Meta’s Quest mixed reality headsets and AI wearables, including the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses developed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica.

Meta plans to enhance its retail strategy by establishing dedicated retail locations, similar to the Meta Lab temporary store launched in Los Angeles. These outlets aim to strengthen Meta’s presence in the consumer electronics market, although retail partners will continue to handle most hardware sales.
