Summary

The Chief Transformation Officer is a key senior leader within the hospital system, responsible for driving process improvement and system-wide clinical and operational transformation for the following areas: Transformation Office, Operational Excellence, system-wide Case Management, Centralized Utilization Review (UR), and Early Discharge Planning, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices. The Chief Transformation Officer leads efforts to optimize patient flow, improve care quality, and implement innovative strategies that enhance efficiency and patient satisfaction across the health system.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Transformation

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive transformation strategy to drive operational excellence and system-wide improvements.
  • Leads the Transformation Office, identifying opportunities for innovation, process redesign, and efficiency enhancements.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to align care management strategies with organizational goals, ensuring seamless transitions of care and optimized discharge planning.
  • Works closely with the CMO, CNE, physicians, nurses, operations, and Information Technology to build cross-functional partnerships that ensure alignment between frontline care and strategic system objectives.
  • In partnership with executive, corporate, and system leadership, provides strategic recommendations on new models of care (e.g., command centers, virtual care, interdisciplinary rounds) to support scalable change and improve clinical and operational outcomes.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, contributing to system-wide planning, policy development, and operational initiatives.

Clinical Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Provides executive leadership for corresponding areas of Transformation Office, Operational Excellence, system-wide Case Management, Centralized Utilization Review (UR), Early Discharge Planning, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered outcomes.
  • Leads teams by driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reduce length of stay, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Develops and implements data-driven strategies to improve utilization management, leveraging analytics and technology to streamline workflows and enhance decision-making.
  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to measure success, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Implements Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance clinical workflows, reduce waste, and improve overall hospital system performance.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) to implement and optimize health IT solutions that enhance clinical workflows, operational efficiency, and revenue integrity.
  • Applies data-driven insights from clinical and revenue cycle dashboards, predictive analytics and key metrics to shape and advance transformation initiatives.

Care Coordination & Patient Flow Optimization

  • Oversees system-wide case management, ensuring effective coordination of care across inpatient, outpatient, and post-acute settings.
  • Leads efforts to enhance early discharge planning, reducing unnecessary hospital stays while maintaining high-quality patient care.
  • Implements centralized utilization review (UR) processes to ensure compliance, efficiency, and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Works closely with clinical teams to enhance patient satisfaction and experience, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care delivery.

Regulatory Compliance & Industry Best Practices

  • Ensures all care management and utilization review processes comply with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Identifies opportunities to incorporate innovative approaches in case management and discharge planning, leading process redesign efforts to implement improvements.
  • Represents the hospital system in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and healthcare leadership networks, advocating for best practices and policy advancements.

Leadership & Organizational Impact

  • Fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence, ensuring alignment with the hospital system’s mission and values.
  • Leads and mentors a high-performing team, providing strategic direction and professional development opportunities.
  • Partners with financial and operational leaders to drive cost-effective strategies that enhance care delivery while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Experience

Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 10 years or more of related experience. Leadership experience is required.

Education

Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field is required. Doctorate degree is preferred.

Skill

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance to make improvements or take corrective action. Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs. Ability to establish goals and objectives. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

Credentials

Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Physical Requirements – Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group are required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: extended use of computers, preparing and analyzing data and analytics, and other components of a typical office environment.
