Position Summary: The Communications Coordinator assists in organizing and facilitating communications assets to local, national and international media to drive editorial coverage of the Lakers beyond day-to-day games. This role supports flawless communications of Lakers brand storytelling, milestone moments and corporate stories across the season and off season. This role supports a variety of communications needs including writing media advisories and press releases, researching and collating media contacts, pitching reporters, monitoring media and reporting results. Additionally, this role supports game day communications and media relationship building across 40+ home games a season.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**):
Communications Program Coordination
- Assist in building and executing communications strategies to secure lifestyle, celebrity and cultural coverage across national and international media
- Coordinate and execute unique communications strategies for tentpole moments across the season and offseason that help the team reach new audiences and bring new fans into the Lakers, including schedule releases, start of the season, uniform launches, key match ups, NBA Cup, Christmas Day, All-Star and Playoffs
- Assist in building and executing communications strategies to support community programs and events including Junior Lakers, Camp Lakers, Season of Giving, Hoops for Troops and more
- Support corporate partnership announcements and activations
- Work with marketing team to create synergies around programming, maximizing content and creative across editorial channels
Media Material Development
- Research and gather insights to develop thoughtful media materials, working across teams and departments to source information and gather facts
- Write media advisories, press releases, pitches, fact sheets, messaging, talking points and feature articles supporting Lakers storylines and news
- Curate photos, videos and graphics for media to help visualize storytelling, working with the marketing team to gather and optimize assets
Day-to-Day Media Support
- Support daily media monitoring and create coverage reports for organizational efforts and announcements
- Research media outlets and contacts that bring new opportunities to the Lakers, including lifestyle media, international media and more
- Support media and broadcast interview requests for players, coaches and front office staff, as assigned
- Research, plan and support logistics for small and large-scale media events including signage, scheduling, run of show, production, invitations, spokesperson preparation and more
- Support department publications including media guide, postseason guide and Lakers Magazine
Game Day Coordination
- Draft media materials to amplify cultural moments and theme nights
- Support game day credentialing process
- Support servicing media during game day, including staffing media check-in and the Chick Hearn Press Room, coordinating media inquiries and providing requested information
- Build relationships with game day media to lay the groundwork for off court storytelling
- Support post-game media materials, including transcriptions
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide on-site media relations and communications support for Lakers’ community initiatives, business updates, sponsorship activations and more
- Provide administrative and clerical support to team leadership, as assigned
- Miscellaneous other tasks and special projects, as needed and assigned
- Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.
Education (Required/ Preferred): Bachelor’s degree (required) in Communications/ Journalism/ Public Relations (preferred) or related field
Previous experience: 1-3 years minimum experience including applicable internships and/or in-field experience working in communications, public relations, media relations or sports
Technology Capabilities
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign and the ability to create and publish
- Microsoft Office (including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Word)

Physical Demands: Ability to lift 25 lbs. and a significant amount of walking on game day
Location: El Segundo (offices and training center M-F and some weekends), downtown Los Angeles (Crypto.com Arena for Laker home games), other occasional off-site events
The pay range for this role is $20.00 to $23.00 per hour. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications.
